Although many people have found themselves to be in trouble with creditors, they often find themselves in more trouble when they try to use a credit repair business to help them get out of the mess that they are in. There are many credit repair businesses that are not reputable, offering services that they have not business offering, and taking money from people who are already struggling to get by each day. There are certain warning signs that a credit repair business is a scam. First, they offer to remove all types of credit problems from the record. They might also claim to produce a completely new credit identity for the person so that the old credit woes do not come out to haunt that person. They may also claim to give a one hundred percent guarantee that the bad credit will be erased from the record. If any of these claims are made, it is a warning sign that the credit repair business is not reputable and should be avoided.

The Credit Repair Business - Other Warnings

There are other warning signs that a credit repair business is one that should be avoided. If the company wants the person to pay for their services before there is any resolution to the credit problems that the person has. This is not the way these companies are allowed to work. The only way that theses credit repair businesses are allowed to ask the person for money is after they have completed the services that they have agreed to provide.

Another warning sign is when the credit repair business does not advise the consumer of the ways that they can fix their credit themselves, without the use of such a company. The company should always tell the consumer his rights and what he can do for free without the credit repair business' help.

Some of these credit repair businesses will also tell consumers not to contact the three credit reporting companies during the process of helping them. They will also often say that they are able to get rid of the bad credit reporting information that is on the reports from these three reporting agencies, even if the bad credit information is accurate. This is not the case, and valid companies will tell consumers so. The scam credit repair businesses will also often advise their clients to apply for an employer identification number to use rather than a social security number so that they can have a new credit identity and leave the old one behind. This is also not a wise choice and does not remove the credit problem.
