If you want to get out of debt, it is imperative that you cut back on unnecessary expenses and start saving money. If you think you are going to get out of debt by going on spending binges, then you better think again.
Too many debtors believe that once they are in debt it does not matter anyway, so why not get what you want out of life. If you do not have the money to meet your obligations and are finding yourself scraping for every penny you can get your hands on, this is one thing. However, if you have extra cash and your bills are due, then you should be making an attempt to make bill payments.
If you do not have the money to pay for your bills, then you are probably a low-income census. This means that you may be eligible for commodities, income, items, and so much more from welfare agencies. You might want to start with your local Social Services office and apply for food stamps, commodities, and income, including medical coverage, until you get back on your feet again. Do not go in the door believing this is your way through life, since welfare is only a temporarily resource available to low-income families.
If you found yourself in a predicament and can't see a way out you might want to seek advice. Find someone that you can trust to guide you through the process of credit repair. Otherwise, you might want to ask a qualified debt counselor to assist you. Any religious organization or many organizations that specialize in debt management or credit repair are your best sources to consult with first. In Australia and other countries, you can contact a government-funded credit help line, and they will put you in touch with a competent debt counselor, usually a retired accountant who is happy to volunteer his or her knowledge and expertise.
If you can find a way to work things through on your own, all the better, since most businesses, companies, individuals, and so on will tell you "oh we know a way" ... do not go for that, go for you! You got into debt; it will take "you" to get out of it. Don't rely on others to help you out. If it does happen, by some form grace, great! But you need to take the first steps towards your own financial salvation.
When you think that no one cares, pick up the phone and dial yourself. You care, and you care more than the creditors or collection agencies that are bugging you every day to pay or try to pay your debts. You are the source to getting out of your situation. Credit is an obstacle and if you do not confront it, you will want to run away from it. Running away from the problem is not the solution and will only get you into a worse situation, which is the last thing you need.
If you make a decision that you want to take the time to learn, earn, and accept your circumstances and situation in a realistic frame of mind, then you will have taken the first step towards the road to financial recovery. If you are in debt over your head, do not run, rather stand up and fight for who you are.
Now that we are on the road to credit repair, you need to know that there are many sources of so-called information out there that will lead you to confusion. If you are in a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy obligated each month to pay more than you make ...you do have the option of filing Bankruptcy 7. Do not let anyone mislead you! The fact is, if you are paying more than you can afford to bankruptcy thirteen courts, you can get a bankruptcy 7 in motion. Chapter 13 bankruptcy means that you have to repay your creditors while Chapter 7 means that most of your debts are wiped out. Now, you will have a Chapter 7 listed on your credit report, but it does not mean that you cannot get credit.
New bankruptcy laws also came into effect from October 17, 2005, so you will need to get informed about these new laws. A good place to start is by visiting the bankruptcy action website for U.S. related bankruptcy information. For Australian-related bankruptcy information, we recommend you visit the website of Fred Appleton, a semi-retired accountant who has been through bankruptcy himself and now provides help and assistance to people facing the decision to file for bankruptcy in Australia.
If you do not see bankruptcy as a solution, then find a way to cut back on your bills, groceries, home necessities, toiletry, insurance, personal needs, and so on.
